About Mary Sovran
Mary Sovran (1936-2021) was a co-founder of the Mindfulness Meditation Institute. She was also an administrator and a regular contributor to the website—sometimes giving her views on meditation from a woman’s perspective.
Mary spent 20 years in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado in a small resort town, where she was a retail business owner in the tourist trade. Her shop was a combination of women’s fashions and gifts. As a shop owner, she had the opportunity to meet people from all over the world.
In the 1970s, she began her meditation practice in the scenic beauty of the Rockies. Since then, she’s had experience with various forms of meditation. In recent years, she had been practicing mindfulness meditation exclusively and found it much more enlightening.
Mary was also a master quilter and designer. She taught quilting for several years, and had won many prizes for her work. One of her award winning quilts was featured in a national magazine. Mary was also a cancer survivor.
